First class staff.. but we checked out early A review of Mayfair Hotel & Spa

Last week we checked into the Mayfair house. A very beautiful and eclectic hotel. The room was quite large with unique (hand made?) furniture and a beautiful, large, well lit bathroom. Unfortunately the room had a musty smell so we turned down the air conditioning and left for a bit to explore the area. When we got back the room was cool but had a strong mold smell. We called the front desk and they were very helpful at getting us moved to a different, abet smaller, room. The maintenance man was very helpful and friendly and also fixed the tv?s so my son could play video games, although he did appear to have some concern regarding the a/c, he checked it several times. The room smelled musty but no noticeable mold smells this time so we again turned down the a/c and left for a bit. When we came back the room was not quite cool, although it was cooler than when we first were there. We ordered room service (very strong smell of burnt pan or Teflon in the leeks that accompanied the crab cakes) after dinner I took a shower, the water would suddenly get scalding hot for a brief second and then turn icey cold again for a brief second every so often? quite the wake up!.At about 2:00 am there began a loud banging sound from the bath area, we turned the water on and off with no change in the noise, when we turned the a/c off the sound quit. So we tried to go to sleep with the a/c off? at about 3 am it was hot and uncomfortable in the room so we again tried to turn on the a/c it ran for a few minutes, just until we were almost asleep when the banging sound came back. This time I called the front desk and again they were very helpful. The front desk manager said he would find us a new room and personally check it before sending us to it. About 15 or so minutes later we got a call with the new room info and the staff came to assist us in relocating to the third room for the night. When we entered the room it was cool with an obvious and almost overpowering smell of deodorizer in the air. At this point we just wanted to sleep. So sleep we did. When I woke up I had burning eyes, stuffed up sinuses and a headache, so I took a shower? same story with the scalding hot/Ice cold surprises. When I was out of the shower I noticed an ozone type smell and then heard a low hissing sound from above one of the cabinets. Upon inspection I found TWO ozone generators placed upon the cabinet (check out the US EPA?s Warnings regarding using Ozone indoors in occupied spaces) . I wonder what they were trying to cover over?I went down to the front desk and explained what had happened to the front desk/manager & concierge. They were quite understanding when I told them We would be checking out early. They even said they would refund all of our room charges and reverse the prepaid room charges (that has not happened yet)
