First (and last ) visit A review of Peppermill Resort Spa Casino
We spent two nights at the Peppermill Resort from July 13, 2003. The staff at the resort are very friendly, but the accommodations and service were very disappointing. When we arrived at our room - a Grand Suite - the carpet was soaking wet. The hotel's solution was to "bring someone in with a machine to dry it out". There was no apology, or no effort to move us to another room. If you are expecting to find quality accommodation in these suites, think again. The bathroom was old and had worn out vinyl flooring, the vanity was small - with one sink - and again was old and with a well worn formica counter top. The tile and fixtures need to be replaced and upgraded. We had a nice meal in the White Orchid restaurant. The steaks in the Steak House were also excellent (as you would hope), but the service was poor and the rest of the meal left a lot to be desired. Service at the Fireside Lounge on both nights was very slow - 15 minutes on average waiting for a cocktail. The casino was very empty, but we had fun on the slots and we got value for our money there. A commercial was being shot in the resort at the time of our visit and as a result the pool bar was "open only to those taking part in the shoot." Not very guest-oriented and not good enough on a very hot Reno day when a cold drink at the poolside would be very welcome. Overall the rooms in this hotel are very overated, well worn, and have seen better days. A major upgrade is needed. We paid $119.00 (+tax) for a shoddy room that was near the elevator and ice maker. There seems to be a lack of good management, with shortages of staff in most restaurants and bars. I would skip this resort and head for something more modern. There are nicer rooms and better value in Reno for this price.
