Fireplace with a flick of the switch A review of BEST WESTERN PLUS Fireside Inn on Moonstone Beach

Just took a long weekend (mid October 2004) which included two days and one night in Cambria. Stayed at the Fireside Inn - Best Western. For a Best Western I thought it was pretty darn nice. At first I thought it was a little pricey for a Best Western but after doing research found it was in line as this is after all a resort town. Was very pleased with the hotel. Apparently recently redecorated. Everything clean and crisp. Large room with French "toile" type decor, granite countertop in bath etc. We paid a little extra for a room with patio and fireplace but was worth it as it was cool and misty during our stay and it was a delight to just flick on the fireplace with a wall switch. The patio was above average even if it did face the parking lot- flagstone with a little "Privacy wall" only about 18 in. high - nicer than your usual concrete. Great location. Easy access to the beach because it was near one of the few staircases from what I could see once we got down there. Had a wonderful time exploring the tide pools. Better than average breakfast including a "make your own Belgian waffle" station - a real treat. Only things I would have changed - the towels were scratchy and would have liked fresh fruit or yougurt of some kind at breakfast - too many bready things although they did have cold cereal selection. Would go again.
