Fantastic 2 Queen Suite A review of Holiday Inn Express Hotel & Suites Ventura Harbor

We stayed at the Holiday Inn Express Ventura Harbor August 18-21, 2006. We needed a place to stay as a base for visiting relatives in Oxnard, near the Oxnard marina, and to attend a wedding. We had reserved a 2 queen suite. The room was fantastic, just perfect. We were a group of 4 adults sharing a room and we had plenty of space. The bathroom was very large with a jaccuzi tub. There was also a sink, stove, refrigerator and cooking equipment, plates, glasses, etc. but we did not use. The Holiday Inn Smart Continental Breakfast is now being served in their breakfast room, overlooking the harbor. It is true the even numbered rooms face the harbor, and the odd numbered rooms faced, well, nothing. At least the ground floor odd numbered rooms had no view. I checked in late, and forgot to ask for an even numbered room. I do not know if the 2 queen suite rooms are even offered on the odd numbered rooms, if I wanted the 2 queen suite, I may have had no choice. It really didn't matter, we were not in the room to look out the window anyhow. There was a patio, but it faced a wall, hence, no view. I had thought the sofa turned into a bed, but ours did not. Nevertheless, the room was very large, and just perfect. We have no complaints and will stay there again. This building used to be part of th e Sheraton, and was referred to as the "Marina Suites." There is still a "Grand Openingt" sign on the building. The building does back up against the marina. All the hotel staff we encountered were very friendly. In previous visits to this area, we stayed at the Embassy Suites in Oxnard which is only a few minutes from our family's home, but with current rates at that property, we were not able to stay. Also, in previous years, I used Priceline to stay at that Marriott Ventura. But this this year, my bids on Priceline were not successful. So, we stayed at the Holiday Inn Express Ventura Harbor, and discovered it was the best place of all considering the room rates, and the size of the room. Although I enjoyed the Marriott, I now prefer this property. It's closer to our relatives, and rooms bigger and nicer. If you're looking for a "resort" property, then you'll want the Embassy Suites, if you want a great room and a fair rate, then you can't go wrong with this hotel.
