Exorbitant Price for the out of luck traveler A review of Miami International Airport Hotel
I stayed at the Miami International Airport hotel on a Saturday night in late November 2004 because I missed my flight, the last one back to Boston, due to an extremely long wait at immigration. It was NASCAR race weekend and it appeared this was the only hotel near the airport that had rooms available (even those at Miami Beach were fully booked). While most 3-4 star hotels in the vicinity charged $40-80 per night, they wanted $120 and didn't even offer discounts for distressed travelers or AAA members.
The rooms were OK, although sound proofing could be better. Windows were sealed and looked out to a wall. Bathroom was typical, but the ammenities (shampoo/soap) could be better, considering I was paying $120 per night. There were 3 restaurants that were just an elevator ride away, including a Italian restaurant, and the Japanese one just outside of the hotel check-in.
The only redeeming thing about the hotel was its location, right in the international terminal, less than one minute walk to American Airlines, which I was flying, so I could check-out and be at the AA counter within a minute (without even needing a shuttle to the terminal). I stayed here because the only other option was to sleep on the noisy/dirtier terminal floor. For the $120 price of a room, this hotel is way over-priced. In future, I will ensure I allow sufficient time between international flights next tiem I transit in miami so I won't be caought in this situation again.
