Excellent rooms but Beware A review of Steigenberger Grandhotel
The rooms in this hotel are quite nice. They definitely live up to 5-star standards including a very nice all marble bathroom. The services in the hotel are good in that any problems encountered were addressed by the front desk staff very quickly and efficiently.
The hotel is experiencing difficulty in the management of their restaurants. I had two incidents there....one in the Loui bar which took 20 minutes to get served and during the same visit, 30 additional minutes to get a plate of cheese from the kitchen. The bar was not crowded at the time and they had quite a few servers but they all seem to be running around in circles.
Another incident in their breakfast room was more serious. When I got up from my table to re-visit the buffet, I returned to find that my sunglasses were swiped off the table by an employee when they came to clear my plates. There were no other guests sitting around me. The restaurant manager quickly cliamed that they never saw the glasses and then turned her back to me to greet other guests.
Another thing......this hotel seems to be the host hotel for many politicians and dignitaries to the EU. During my stay, it was host to the Iraqi delegation among other nations. Security was tight and an armed guard for the Iraqis was posted on my floor. Not the most comfortable feeling, to say the least.
