Excellent location - check out the Coffee Grinder for your daily latte! A review of Newport Harbor Hotel & Marina
My family and I just returned from a wonderful get-a-way to Newport, RI (4/19/04 - 4/22/04). We stayed at the Newport Harbor Hotel and Marina. Spending a little extra to get a harbor view was well worth it. Ask for one of the 4th floor rooms which include a balcony for great views of the harbor and marina. Our room was a bit small for 2 adults and 2 children, but we spent most of our time taking in the Newport sites. This hotel is in a great location, just steps away from Bowen's and Bannister's Wharf where there are some excellent restaurants and shops. Check out the Coffee Grinder, which is located at the end of Bannister's Wharf. We got some great local tips from Alyssa who makes an excellent cup of latte. We made it our daily stop for quality coffee and scones/pastries. My husband especially enjoyed sipping his espresso while sitting in one of the adirondack chairs overlooking the water while our daughters enjoyed their mocha. One evening we decided to just have desert and coffee, so we stopped by the Clarke Cooke House for a luscious desert where we were seated fireside for a memorable experience. The Cliffwalk was a great way to get in the ocean views and see some of Newport's famous mansions. Make sure to wear comfortable walking shoes, as the Cliffwalk has a variety of walking surfaces, from paved to boulder rocks. We took a tour of the Breakers which is an amazing architectural site and shows the decadence of the wealthy. All in all, Newport has lots to do, great eats and is affordable in the off season.
