Embassy Suites was 5 Star! A review of Embassy Suites Alexandria-Old Town
Our group of 3 stayed at the Embassy Suites Old Town Alexandria for four nights in April 2004. We actually moved from another hotel in Alexandria (the Executive Suites Club) because that hotel was so awful. The Embassy was absolutely fabulous! All of the reviews do it justice. Our room was spacious, clean, and steps away from everything. The breakfasts are incredible! Everything you could think of to eat -- omelettes, Belgian waffle maker, eggs, bacon, sausage, grits, potatos, cereal, donuts, pastry, toast, muffins, oatmeal. You name it, they had it. The shuttle was prompt. Metro right across the street (20 minutes into the mall area of DC). If you want to go to Mount Vernon (a definite must), you can take the yellow line two stops down to the Huntington stop and then take the Fairfax Connector bus straight to Mount Vernon for only the cost of the metro (about $2.20) and the bus (75 cents each way). That way you can spend as much time as you like at Mount Vernon. Some really great restaurants in Alexandria Old Town are Gadsby's Tavern, Il Porto (great Italian) and The Warehouse (seafood & steaks). I'm going back next year with my daughter and I would definitely stay at the Embassy Suites!
