Eek! A review of Daniels Family Resort
The property is really pretty on first-sight. Behind closed doors, though, is another matter. Our room was literally crumbling before us: wallpaper peeling off the walls, un-patched holes in the walls and ceilings, linoleum curling up at the edges, and stains everywhere. As soon as we arrived, we removed the many cobwebs around the room ourselves, and scraped a used Band-Aid off the back of one of the doors and threw it in the trash.
During our first meal, we were seated at a table that had remnants of the last diners food all over the table (not to mention the floor and chairs), and no one at any point made an attempt to wipe down the table. We asked for a few extra napkins so we could do it ourselves. They ran out of coffee halfway through breakfast and refused to prepare any more. They ran out of lettuce at the salad bar at the beginning of dinner.
The other common areas are OK. The 'nightclub' area is expansive and accomodates a large number of people. Once the drinks are flowing from the bar, things start to seem a bit nicer. In the light of day the following morning it's another story.
Now, we didn't pay a fortune to stay here. They have a great package for Christmas Tree Weekend and it's very reasonably priced. The addage that 'you get what you pay for' really does apply. I think that with a little bit of elbow grease on the part of housekeeping and food-service, I might have been less inclined to invoke the cliche though and could have left feeling like I'd gotten a great value for the money.
