Dreamy beds, gracious staff A review of Sheraton Austin at the Capitol

Stayed at this Marriott on my own for 4 nights with a conference that was also at the hotel. The room was average size, with furnishings that were fairly new, clean and comfortable. The beds were excellent with pillowtop mattresses and down bedding and lots of feather pillows. I slept great every night. Bathroom was large, good water pressure in the shower. I could see the interstate from my window, but did not notice any traffic noise during my stay. Appreciated the large desk, comfortable chairs and easy internet access.

I ordered room service the first night, which was delivered fast and hot. Enjoyed dinner on the patio of Rojo Red restaurant another night; servers and host were very friendly and went out of their way to make me comfortable. I am accustomed to dining alone - and being ignored because of it. But just the opposite occurred here. Food was very good.

The indoor/outdoor pool and spa area was well maintained and constantly attended when I was there. The door to the outside was rusted and made a piercing screech when it opened/closed; they had it propped open but it didn't always stay that way. The garden area beyond the pool was lovely scenery in the midst of the city and I enjoyed hanging out there.

The conference rooms were clean and pretty typical, but showing some wear. Our break out food, lunches and service of the banquet staff were all superb. There was one session during our conference when it seemed the staff forgot about us... dishes piled up pretty bad... but they corrected the situation after the break and before the next session began.

Didn't get out much, but found some interesting restaurants and bars within walking distance. So much to do in Austin - we carpooled to the hot spots. Capitol and downtown are not so far away... I enjoyed the walk after sitting all day.

All told, I really enjoyed my stay here and felt well taken care of.
