Dreadful - definitley not recommended A review of Rydges on Swanston Melbourne
Despite the fact that the hotel had "recently been refurbished", the room was small, dark and dingy and in need of a thorough clean. The 'emergency plumbing' problems appeared to be ongoing (reviewers elsewhere report similar problems three weeks after we stayed there). When water was available, the shower drain was partially blocked and the toilet cistern cracked. Only one lift to service the whole of the hotel and fire exits to the stairs either locked/jammed or wedged open. The pool was small and not very clean. Guest laundry facility was constantly in use by hotel staff washing hotel bed linen and towels. Corridors were dim and unpleasantly odourous. The hotel advertises the panoramic views over the city and our room, along with several others, overlooked a courtyard with views of other rooms and the air conditioning units (which was noisy). A particularly unpleasant duty manager. The most expensive and worst hotel we stayed in during our trip to Australia. The location is absolutely fantastic - just try another hotel in this vicinity.
We would be more then happy to welcome you back to the hotel in the future for a more pleasant stay.
