Don't Forget Your Cardigan A review of St George's Park & La Vallette Resorts

My mother (50) and myself (30) each paid £250 (around $625 inc. flights & transfers) for a 14 night package holiday to the Isle of Malta. We stayed at The St Georges Park Apartments, in the resort of St Julians, which is a 20 minute coach trip from the airport. Our studio accomodation was spacious, clean, had an ensuite bathroom, twin beds, cooking area, TV, phone and a large balcony with panoramic views of St Georges Bay.The complex contained a mini mart, restaurant, laundry room, and 2 unheated pools, (the indoor pool was also used by the guests staying next door at La Valletta Hotel). Other facilities included an on site gym, sauna and 2 bars with live entertainment, bingo/singers etc. We only ate once in the restaurant and used the complex bar as a last stop before bed. St Julians had a wide range of eating houses, bars and clubs to suit all, most were closed by 12am. A couple of nightclubs, located very close to the complex, continued playing their music until the early hours. It's often said that 'location is everything' and we were lucky enough to have apartments wedged either side and below us, stopping most of the noise. (not so nice if you were staying in one of those blocks...)The down side to all this, was the March weather. Being untravelled British folk, we're used to cold, rainy conditions most of the time and had hoped, even expected the Mediterranean Climate to be slightly milder, but dispite 10 days out of the 15 being sunny (average temperature was 15C), it felt chilly most of the time. After 3 days of pretending to each other that 'it wasn't that cold', we conceded and got out the emergency jumpers and called reception for more blankets. It is worth pointing out that the staff at St Georges Park, were friendly and helpful, unfortunately we had less luck with customer service generally in Malta. A good example of this was myself and mom, commenting how nice the food was after having finnished a meal (in a resturant we'd used regularly) until we over heard thethen go to bed by 9" to a group of Spanish ladies who wondered why the restaurant was nearly empty. It ruined our evening. Mom simply said "well this little piggy wants the bill" needless to say we haven't reccomended that place to anyone!Over all it was value for money we paid (dirt cheap), everyone spoke English, and they've got a nice drink called Kinnie available in vending machines everywhere.
