Does what it says on the tin !!! A review of Melia Bali Indonesia
What I liked about this hotel is that it was just like the brochure suggested !
Our room looked like the picture on their website. So did the restaurants, the pool and the gardens ! We truly did get what we paid for !
Cant say fairer than that !
Amenities being as above, other points of comment as follows :
-The hotel is a big one, and it had a large group in for our first couple of nights. The group members were civilized and respectful, but their tendency to move and congregate in small (and large) gatherings was a minor irritation during a very pleasant holiday. The hotel wisely have a "Frequently Asked Questions" board in the lobby and there have clearly been questions about the number of groups they get at the property. Their response is that they get few but there is the necessity to take groups and operate at high occupancy levels in order to maintain their competitive price structure.
-We had read about air con problems on the site before leaving and so were wary upon arrival. No problems to report in our "wing" - building 2.
-Would recommend participating in the hotel's voucher deal which entitles you to 25% off food and drink if you pay at Reception in advance.
We found a decent lunch in the beachside restaurant (inc soft drinks) to total about £5 per person on those terms (after discount). Overall, the restaurants we tried at the hotel were great. Altho more expensive than the local places in Nusa Dua, the surroundings and sheer convenience made it worthwhile as an option and we enjoyed meals in both.
-Heed caution if using the tour operator on site in the hotel. The rates they charge for their private trips (ie your own car and guide) fluctuated tremendously, depending on who was in the office at the time of our enquiry. The guides and transportation were fine, but we had to be a little firmer than I would have hoped to get our original verbal offer accepted.
- When the tide is in, the beach setting is charming. When the tide is out it is considerably less attractive ! I put this down to nature rather than the fault of the Melia Bali ! Like others mention, seaweed and natural debris tends to drift in the water. Not the end of the world, but no quite the dream beach that some might hope for. NB this applies to all the hotels down the strip, not just this one.
I hope you enjoy Melia Bali. We did. I note that those that stayed in neighbouring hotels - Nusa Dua Beach, Sheraton Laguna and Westin - all seem to think they had the best deal, much as those at Melia think they did too ! Well, we thought the Melia was the top draw. I hand it to Sheraton that their pool setting is superior, but the grounds and tranquility of Melia gave it the edge for us. Lovely !
