Do not judge a book by its cover A review of Centrale Hotel
My husband and I just returned from an Easter break in Brussels and stayed at this hotel. We were initially supposed to book the Marriott, but as we were still doing the online booking, the hotel became unavailable and we settled for the Hesperia.
When we arrived at the hotel, it really did not look 4 stars at all!! We were given a room on the 5th floor, and it was absolutely fabulous, and lived up to its standards. We had a separate lounge area with 3 sofas and a very spacious room, even a balcony! The toilet and bathroom was separate and it even had 2 separate basins. Our room was larger than others around us (had a peek while the lady was cleaning the neighbouring rooms), and looked nothing like the photos posted by the previous person. We never requested a superior room, so not sure if it was just our luck, or what. Every small detail was taken into account...right down to providing earbuds, a comb, and even a shaving and dental kit!
Granted the reception staff did not speak/understand English very well, but they were indeed very helpful when you needed anything. The breakfast area was a disappointment though (as stated by previous reviewers), and for a 4 star hotel, a bigger area with more staff and a better breakfast selection should have been provided. Handy tip...try to get to breakfast at least before 9:45, otherwise you would have to wait outside for a table!
Location wise...its two doors away from the Brussels Central Station (use the Rue De Colonies exit), and about a 10 minute walk from the Central Place, so not bad at all. However if you do not prefer walking uphill, I suggest you book closer to the Grand Place. Not a bad hotel overall though :-))
