Disappointing A review of Holiday Inn Express Hotel & Suites
Family of 4 stayed here two nights in March, 2004. High: convenient location (easy on/off I-91, can walk to stores.) Lows: not so helpful service; lack of high-speed Internet (in both the room and the closet-sized "business center"); only one TV in what they billed as a "family suite"; poor breakfast selection; strange petroleum-type odor throughout hallways and common areas; pool water was an unappealing green color. Also, my two teenagers were disappointed to see the two signs prominently displayed in the fitness room, forbidding anyone under 18 from entering the room. (Most other hotels we've stayed at allow older kids with adult supervision to use the facilities.) There were other minor annoyances like no directory with hotel information in the room, so I had to call to find out when breakfast was served. The person who checked us in didn't explain anything because she was too busy telling me how lucky I was to get the room for an additional night beyond my reservation, despite the half-empty parking lots both nights.
Also, there was no local phone book in the room, just two copies of a phone book covering an area 30 miles away. So when we wanted to get pizza one night, again we had to call the front desk to inquire. All in all, the minor annoyances added up to a disappointing stay.
