Disappointing A review of Hawthorne Hotel
It started going downhill when I arrived at 2pm and was told the room wasn't ready. After I took my luggage back to my car which was parked a block away, I drove around waiting until after 3pm, and then returned to check in.
I had reserved a smoking room when booking directly with the hotel, but alas, it was not meant to be. Even though I had talked with the reservation lady at length about smoking rooms, it never made it onto the reservation, and I had to wait for another room. I was also told that I would have to stay in a smaller corner room since "I" had screwed up my reservation! Small was an understatement for this room, you had to walk sideways to go from the bed to the bathroom.
The first night was absolutely miserable. When the seasons change, this old hotel turns off the heat, and when a cold snap rolls in, you freeze. At least in my corner room, it was so cold it was unbearable. Each time I complained, I got a different response, and several different people visited the room and all had a different reason for the cold, and a different plan to fix it. By the second night, I told them I would have to leave and go somewhere else in order to sleep, since I had an early flight. That seemed to be enough, and the heat came on within minutes. By that point, I was so flustered I hardly slept at all. When I checked out, I was asked how everything went, and I gave the above story, only to hear, "Well, I sure hope you come back to visit!" Overall, it was the worst hotel stay I've ever had, and I think it was the staff's attitude and demeanor that threw me the most. Don't waste your money on this one.
