Disappointed A review of Harveys Lake Tahoe
My sister and I visited Harvey's Lake Tahoe on February 17th and 18th, 2004. She had a room with her teenage son and I had a room with my two teenage sons. We had beautiful rooms in the Lake Tower on the California side (with a view of the lake). The valet and bell hops were great...polite, prompt, professional. The bell man delivered our luggage and was very helpful telling me where things were. I needed a roll away bed for one of my sons the first night and they delivered it within 5-10 minutes. Likewise the maids were very polite and attentive to my questions and requests. Over the course of the two days, however, there were a couple indications that this is not a top of the line hotel.
First, we were not given a key to the mini bar. I called down for one and after 40 minutes, gave up and went down to the front desk to pick it up myself. We called room service for breakfast and were told it would be one hour. We decided to go out instead. The final straw, however, occurred when I was told the health club was only complimentary for members of the "platinum club." I was in the middle of my workout when a staff person approached me and asked if I was a member of the platinum club. I said no but that I was a hotel guest.
She said she was sorry but the health club facilities were only for use by club members. She said I could pay $15 for two day's use or I could go across the street to Harrah's and use their facilities free of charge. I couldn't believe it! I have stayed in some very nice hotels and NEVER have I been asked to pay to use the health club facilities! I returned to my room, without completing my workout, extremely frustrated. I cannot imagine a quality hotel would have such a "cheap" policy. I will choose to stay elsewhere on my next trip to Tahoe.
