Disapointed in this Marriott A review of Marriott Salt Lake City University Park
We stayed at this hotel as it was our "Team" hotel for the NCAA Men's Basketball Regionals at the Huntsman Center. The hotel was very convenient to get to the Arena but not convenient to get downtown to the restaurants and bars.
My friend and I had reserved a room with 2 beds so we could split the price. The rates of $219/night were a bit high even during a special event. We were both Marriott Rewards Members. I gave the desk clerk my Rewards card asking him to split the points with the other person and he said no problem. When we checked in, the desk clerk never mentioned that he gave us a room with 1 bed. We were rather shocked after opening the room's door to see the 1 bed. Back to the front desk to complain. He said all the 2 bed rooms were taken so he promised us a roll away. Big whoop. For $219/night- BS. He lowered the rate to $189/night for our "inconvenience.
Next morning, we went to the restaurant to have breakfast. We waited at the sign that said "please wait to be seated" for quite awhile before any help came to seat us. It was apparent from other people's comments that the restaurant was severly lacking in staff. Unbelievable considering the hotel was sold-out for the basketball tournament. On a positive note, the breakfast buffet and omelet station were pretty good. I did have to ask my waitress 4 times for a glass of water though.
Later that afternoon, we had a group of 10 waiting for their shuttle to take us to a local establishment. There was 1 van sitting outside all along but no driver. The other van was on a run. As we were waiting, I asked a manager if he had a driver's license to which he responded-yes. I asked him if he had the keys to the van outside-to which he responded - no. After promises of only 10 mins a couple times, the van came back only to find out he wouldn't take us where we wanted to go. Again, back to the front desk to complain that we had been waiting for nearly an hour, 1 van was just sitting, and promises of a ride, to no avail. Finally the same manager got the keys and had someone take us to where we wanted to go. Again, a staffing problem. Where was the driver to the 2nd van. Unbelievable.
After our team's tough loss, our fan's flocked to the bar for some "medication". There was only 1 bartender and 1 waitress for the whole bar. Some people waited nearly 20 mins to get a drink. Again, a staffing problem.
Needless to say only 1 of us got his Rewards points despite the promise that we'd both split the points.
All in all, I would NOT stay at this hotel again EVEN IF I was going to attend an event at the arena.
