Definately would stay here again A review of Residence Inn Alexandria Old Town

We stayed for 6 nights at the end of May for family vacation. We had the 2 bedroom / 2 bath suite right in the top floor corner of the building. There were four of us: me, wife and our 2 kids 9 and 11.

Staying here was a last minute change. We actually were booked at the Homewood Suites in Old Town. But after thinking about it, we figured it would be better to stay at a place close to the metro. In addition, the Residence Inn had an indoor pool and Homewood had an outdoor which was not open yet.

The room was very clean: spotless and smelling fresh every day. Everything was in working order.

There are 3 televisions in the room: one in each bedroom and one in the living room. It had a full kitchen with fridge, stove, microwave, sink, dishwasher, utensils, plates, glasses, coffee maker, you name it.

The beds were comfortable. They have those memory foam mattresses. We all slept well. My son, 9 years old, slept in one bedroom and my daughter slept on the pullout couch. The pullout was clean and looked comfortable. Unfortunately they only have queen beds available though. It would have been nice if one bedroom had two twin beds.

Each bathroom had a hair dryer and full combo tub / shower.

The metro is two blocks away and could be seen clearly from our room. It's about a 5 minute walk. They have a complementary shuttle that takes you there; no reservation needed.

The full breakfast buffet is all that you could ask for in a breakfast. Scrambled eggs daily with all sort of sides. Usually a meat and potato side. French toast on a couple of days. Bisquits and gravy one day. Taco shells one day to make your own scrambled egg tacos. Make-your-own Belgium waffles daily was a nice touch. Yogurt, fresh toppings for yogurt, fresh fruit, mini-muffins, DONUTS, cerial, juice, tea, fresh coffee and flavored coffee from a machine thing. The buffet is definately the best thing about this place! In fact, we would tank up on breakfast, hit DC and have a drink and/or snack for lunch, then have a good dinner. So we only paid for one meal a day.

They also have a manager's reception Monday - Thursday in the evening. We did not partake in this so I can't really comment. I did see free wine and beer one day though!

The staff was always helpful, cheerful and pleasant.

Pool was on the small side but definately large enough for all ages to have fun in. I went in with the kids every day. They have a full time lifeguard. They tracked the water balance daily, however, the water was always a little cloudy. Its probably a filter thing. It is not over-clorinated.

Parking was easy. Most of it is enclosed. It is gated. Its a bummer you have to pay $15.00 a day to park though.

One complaint I have is the high speed internet access. It was intermittent at best. It hung often. It was a frustrating experience. I would not count on it to do any kind of real work.

Another complaint was the white noise level. The ventilation system could always be heard. The central air condition was quite loud. You had to turn up the TV every time it went on. It would startle you when it came on until you got used to it. There was only one fan speed: high. If you are used to a place with lots of background noise this will not be a problem.

Other than that, the place is highly recommended. I couldn't rate it exellent because of the white noise and internet problems.

I would definately stay there again!
