Decent hotel A review of Esturion Hotel & Lodge
The Esturion is a good, but not great hotel. My stay there was pleasant but not memorable, and while I wouldn't disuade someone from staying there I wouldn't go out of way to recommend it either.
The best aspect of the hotel is the service. All employees were very friendly and helpful. The hotel also strives in this area: same-day laundry is available (and was done without a problem), pool-side and looby-bar service is quick and courteous, and the free breakfast buffet is extensive.
The public areas are clean, and I saw no signs of construction. There is an outdoor pool with views of the river, but the deck chairs are solid wood with no cushions and quite uncomfortable. Go for the hammocks.
My room was functional. The bed was comfortable, and the bathroom spacious and clean. The decor appeared worn, and there is no couch (there is a desk with chair and another lounge chair). The TV has limited channels, all in Spanish with poor reception. And there is one choice for the AC: on or off, and it did not control the humidity very well.
The location is either a neutral or negative factor. I walked to town a lot to eat, and it's at least a 15 minute walk, which after a day in the heat at the falls is not fun. Beyond mini-marts there's not much between the hotel and town. If you're eating in the hotel and taking organized tours then the distance to town probably isn't a factor.
