Convenient location A review of Hotel Century Old Town Prague
Stayed at the hotel on a 3 day break and had a very pleasant stay. Staff were curteous and friendly. The hotel building very impressive and had an ambience of sophistication about it, apparently kafka used to work in the building.
Most attractions are close by. Wenceles Square is about 10 mins walk with lots of christmas market stalls en route for your perusal. Charles bridge is about a 20 minute brisk walk through the cobbled streets. Might be worth sampling some of the hot wine sold at some stalls to warm your cockles.
Prior to the trip, I was a bit worried about other reviews on this site saying the rooms were a bit small, but ours had ample space, enough to swing a large dog!
The air conditioning kept the room snug during what seemed like arctic temperatures outside, but I would have liked to have the option of being able to open the locked window to let in some fresh air if needed.
The bed was very comfy too, and the linen all clean and fresh changed daily.
I thought the minibar drinks and food in the room were very expensive for Prague, which is renowed for its cheap food and beer. Drinks were around £2-£3.50p A bag of peanuts was the biggest ripoff costing 200k around 4.20p pounds in uk money. They were not even cashew nuts! There's a cheap convenience store next door though, to stock up your own supply of nibbles and beverages.
The breakfast was very good, with fresh omeletes on the morning menu cooked as ordered by a chef while-u-wait. Lots too suit various palletes. Hot food like bacon, scrambled eggs, beans sausage and hash browns was available and ham cheese, rolls, fruit and cereal.
At the back of the hotel a huge new hotel is about to be built. The stay could have been a noisy one, the foundations are being laid, but intermittent drilling didn't start till 9:00am and the workers left by about 5:00pm. The noise didn't seem to loud behind the double glazing. But you may need to consider what it may be like when the structural building work begins.
Found Prague beer cheap in all the restaurants, but quick note about the casinos I visited. After using any fruit machines and automated roulette wheels you have to get a member of staff to withdraw any winnings. Very annoying when you want to move onto a different machine to spend any profit elsewhere.
