Convenient, but cramped A review of Hilton Orrington/Evanston
We spent four nights at the Orrington - in part because it offered the best rates in Evanston over the 4th of July weekend. We wanted a convenient, Evanston location and the Orrington delivered. It's close to nice restaurants, the "L", the lake, Northwestern, etc.
As for the hotel itself, first the good news.
The staff was professional and helpful. When we accidentally left the Do Not Disturb sign on the door all day, the maids honored the sign, but also called up at the end of the day to make sure that we didn't want fresh towels delivered. The parking valets were polite and speedy, and the desk staff were helpful.
They have no pool, but have a nicely equipped exercise room (included in the room price) with a half dozen or so pieces of aerobic equipment and a full rack of free weights.
The linens were comfy and plush, and the bed was very large and comfortable.
Now, the bad news.
The room was almost laughably small. There was about 18" between the foot of the bed and the dresser - such that you could not pull the drawers all the way out because the bed was in the way. We didn't spend much time in the room except to sleep, so we didn't mind the "large bed / small room" problem. But it was pretty cramped.
Also, the air conditioning unit was very loud, and cycled on and off. I personally have no problems sleeping with a cycling air con unit, but if you do, you'll have a problem with this hotel.
With all this said, I still would stay at the Orrington again - especially at the $109 rate (which was less than either the Best Western or the Hilton Garden Inn).
