Coming in for a landing A review of La Quinta Inn & Suites Galveston Seawall West
We spent the night at this location on it's grand opening day. We were told the mayor was there earlier to cut the ribbon. Our room was nice, the elevator ran great. However, at about 4:34 a.m. a huge jet plane flew over the hotel close enough to rattle the walls and windows. Other dissappointments: Hallway noise was incredible. Pillows were like rocks (could have been because they were new). The bed was pretty stiff (which could be a good thing for some). The hotel is out in nowheresville and it's pretty dangerous crossing the road- not that you would want to because the seawall at that point is pretty dangerous- no sandy beach. The only thing of interest nearby was a fishing pier- great if you are a fisherman and love jet plane noise. Who designed a hotel right in the middle of a flight path? La Quinta, that's who. Oh, and before I forget- make sure you get to breakfast before 8:45- or else you will not get anything- as the close the breakfast at 9 a.m. - and refused to restock anything at 8:50 a.m. The good thing about this La Quinta though was that the check in staff guy was very friendly. The check out staff girl/ breakfast killer was not so friendly. I have stayed at many a La Quinta all across the Southwest- and I am a returns member- but I have to tell others about this new hotel- so you can be warned about the 4:30 a.m. jet plane. Take your earplugs.
