Comfortable Inn, Great location A review of Inn by the Lake

My wife and I stayed 4 nights in late AUG2004 with our 2 teen-age children. If you are looking for a lakeside location in South Lake Tahoe, away from the crowd/clutter of the Stateline Casino area, look here. We had a family suite, 2 double beds in the bedroom, pull-out sofa in the sitting area. Room was defintiely clean, moderate size, moderately furnished, housekeeping very helpful, view of the Lake just outside our window. Hotel staff is young, very freindly, helpful, sometimes hilarious (mostly skiers working their summer job). Some other reviews mention hot tub and pool flaws but we found them to be running smoothly and enjoyable. Breakfast is served nicely in a garden room by the pool.

Bikes, as mentioned in other reviews, function but have definitely seen better days.

Across the street is a public access beach that we found uncrowded, clean, and a great picnic lunch spot. It's a short drive to many SLT marinas and attractions. Marriott Heavenly Ski village is walkable (in the summer!) to shopping, some fun restaurants, and gondola to the summit (if you are not a regular skier accustomed to mountain-top views, take the gondola ride. Views of the Lake from 9,000 feet are stunning. And no matter what it feel like at the base of the mountain in August, it will be chilly at the summit).'s an Inn, probably built originally in the 50's/early 60's, not a mega-resort. Tahoe in the summer is about the scenery and being outdoors, on the lake. If you are like us, and want to spend your time out and about rather than at a sprawling resort, Inn By the Lake is an excellent choice.
