Comfortable beds, great breakfast, and upscale feeling - best deal in the area! A review of Hilton Garden Inn Pismo Beach
With my son at CalPoly, I've scoured the reviews and availability of all the hotels in Pismo, SLO, and Morro Bay. Having stayed in a handful of them, I definitely recommend Mission Inn as the best value. There are probably nicer locations - right on the beach or in downtown SLO, but you pay dearly for the difference. Needing to stay only 1 night, I looked at all the "cheap" motels in SLO, and their prices were so ridiculous, I started looking elsewhere. When I came across the Mission Inn's web site, with their reasonable rate (we paid $137 for a high-demand Saturday night) I was a little nervous about it actually meeting the description they provided. Being close to the freeway, I requested a quiet room on the other side of the building. We were pleasantly surprised when we arrived to see how nice the hotel was and how great our room was. If you need a quiet, dark room with a super comfortable bed, this is your place! The pool area was pretty, though we didn't have a chance to use it. You can see the ocean from the south and east sides of the building, but it is awfully far. Not really worth paying extra for in my opinion. What I might pay more for, though, is one of the rooms that has a nice patio opening onto the grassy area near the pool. If you're travelling with kids or maybe staying there a few days, I could see that additional outdoor space as a really nice bonus. The full breakfast was wonderful - such a nice departure from standard danishes and cold cereal. Another of our favorite chains in California is Larkspur Landing; this place was very similar. Actually, the bed and room were every bit as nice as the Hiltons and Hyatts I've been to AND they don't nickel and dime you for every little thing.
Will be visiting again when I pick up my son for the summer. Tip: I checked their web site for rates and saw their best was $119. Called directly and said I was looking for a room for about $99. At first she gave the $119 as best, but when I asked if that was the lowest, she "found" another option at $109 :) Considering the worst dives in SLO were all around $80 with no breakfast, I think this is an excellent deal!
I'm certain that once everyone wises up to how great this place is, their rates are going to rise and they'll be booked all the time. Try it now while you can!
