Comfort, Convenience & Cleanliness. We'll be back! A review of Quality Inn Gettysburg Motor Lodge
Stayed here July 8-10, 2003 in a king/whilrpool room with private balcony (w/2 chairs) overlooking outdoor pool. Four windows (that had screens & actually opened for a breath of fresh air!) with privacy curtains kept us from having that closed-in feeling of most hotel/motel rooms. Our room was large enough to feel comfortable & open. AC worked great. Bed was perfectly comfortable (but we asked for an extra pillow); furnishings - tables, chairs, dresser & chest - offered seating space for 2 people to be very comfortable & had more than enough clothing storage; good lighting w/4 lamps in the room; bench in lighted entry hall; ample closet space; comfortably large bath with mirrored door; hair dryer; coffee maker; iron & ironing board; staff friendly & helpful; housekeeping well-done & unobtrusive; all-around, a really nice room with no negatives. We anticipated a lot of noise due to the pool, but even sitting on our balcony so close to the pool was pleasant because the pool guests, adults, teens & children, were just playful, not annoyingly loud. Tour buses were there throughout our stay, but the groups were great & no more noticeable than any other guests. Apparently this is a non-smoking motel(?), but most, if not all, rooms have either a balcony or covered entry access so smokers like myself won't find it an inconvenience. [Smoker to smoker tip: those little empty canisters your film came in?-put out your cigarette & stow the butt in the canister til you can dispose of it properly.] The motel property adjoins the Battlefield & an easy walk of 5-10 minutes puts you at the Park Service Visitor Center, the site of Pickett's Charge, museums, restaurants, shops, etc. The motel is on Steinwehr Ave, convenient for evening strolls along the ave. for window shopping, a drink, ice cream or people-watching. The complimentary continental breakfast is available in a cottage on the grounds. If coffee, juice, milk, bagels, toast, danish & cereal are your taste, it's great. For a full hot breakfast try "Dunlap's" on Buford. My last hotel stay was at Caesar's in Tahoe NV in June 2003, & while not quite as upscale in some minor respects, this Quality Inn was as pleasant & comfortable in every way as the resort hotel. We won't consider a different motel for our future Gettysburg trips.
