Clean & welcoming A review of Martin's Brugge
We decided to visit Bruges over the August bank holiday weekend. We booked direct on the Eurostar website and decided on this hotel mainly because it was one of the cheapest. We were impressed with Eurostar (this was our first experience of this service). You need to change trains in Brussels for Bruges.
The location of the hotel couldn't be better. It's located centrally very near to the Belfry. The only downside to this is that it was a bit noisy during the night if you like to keep a window open. The upkeep and cleanliness is the best I've seen in a hotel for a while. It was warm, comfy & friendly. The rooms are en suite and have a mini bar, TV & safe but we didn't use them.
There is a buffet breakfast with a good selection from fruit, cereals, eggs, meats & cheeses.
Bruges is a pretty place, full of cobbled streets. It's easy to expore on foot, on a river boat or be pulled in a horse drawn carriage. Great views from the top of the Belfry. Be warned the stairs get very steep and narrow nearer the top.
On the whole Bruges is an expensive place to go to. If you like tomatoe sauce with your meal, you will be charged extra (we were charged 1.80 Euro!)
The restaurants like to try to add on extras but are not pushy, more suggestive. The food in the restaurants we went to was superb.
We went for 2 days which we felt was enough time to see all the main attractions and get a good feel for the place.
