Classy, Comfortable, Great Views and Terrific Restaurant! A review of Inn at Mystic
I had the opportunity to spend a few days at the Inn at Mystic (in the East Wing) during the summer, enjoying a room with a balcony view of the water.
The room was wonderful (and cool despite some hot weather) and I loved sitting on the balcony in the evening - taking in the views of Mystic Harbor and Long Island Sound.
The Flood Tide Restaurant was excellent and the attention by staff was first rate! Whenever I ran across someone working at the Inn, he/she usually gave a quick check to make sure I had everything I needed.
I took the opportunity to stroll and hike the grounds over the three days I was there and, as a gardener, I was delighted by the landscaping -- flower beds of all sorts everywhere with loads of different kinds of plants and interesting landscape additions like the carved "mushroom" tree. The view from the top of the hill by the Mansion (near the waterfall and flagpole) is the kind of view that makes you think, "this is why I love New England."
There are plenty of activities available at the inn: kayaks, tennis courts, walking trails, birding, etc.
But I like the fact that the place covers so much territory that you can simply wander and explore without a particular goal or destination in mind. Because that, to me, is the essence of a vacation.
