Clampets Cabin A review of Kaibab Lodge
Stayed one night at the Kaibab Lodge, Sept 16th 2004, as there were no lodgings available at the North Rim. Check in was OK if a little slow but when we went to the room, which was a bit like a bunkhouse, a block of four with a porch at the front, we found a large bag of rubbish against the door. on going inside we found that the room had not been fixed up after the previous occupants. This was finally done after an hours wait, not what you want after a full day hiking in the canyon! When we did get into the room and had a good look at it we realised that it was a lashed up afair. It was generally dirty and the fixtures and fittings were of a very poor quality. The maintainace/repairs of the room seemed to have been done by Pa Clampet who obviously has very bad DIY skills. (the mirror, which you couldnt see through, was hanging on the wall on a foot long piece of string from a nail in the paper thin plywood dividing wall) I suppose we were lucky though as we only paid $101 + tax for the smoking room, we could have paid $156 + tax for the non smoking option. If you like to be close to your neighbours this is the place as you will hear them breathing through the walls. We left there at first light and wont be going back. Lovely location but shocking standard of accomodation for the money. My advice is plan ahead and book a cabin up at the North Rim in the park.
