Christmas Getaway--Romantic but Misleading A review of Glendeven Inn

Our stay at Glendeven was full of expectation as the weeks dwindled down to the Christmas holiday season. We were anticipating the harsh weather, with constant rain showers, puffy rain clouds, and a cold wind, but we were not expecting all that Glendeven had in store for us.

My husband and I decided to stay at Glendeven as a Christmas present for each other...a relaxing getaway, with hiking trails, two fireplaces, and breakfast brought to our room...

We stayed in the Carriage House. The bed was magnifacent, one that you would dream of--feeling as if you were sleeping on top of a cloud, the skylight glistened the moonlight glow onto the bed. This was definately one of my favorite aspects of our stay.

Unfortunately, the Carriage House is right on Hwy 1, and the road traffic was quite a distraction. It wasn't loud enough that you couldn't have a conversation, but it was something quite unexpected. I would not want to stay here in the summer time, when you may expect solitude, you will not get it.

We were also a bit disgruntled with the plumbing--the "double headed shower" had a "nice" showerhead and a "horrible" one, and the hot water lasted about 5 minutes. Despite the skylight above the toilet, and the enchanting bodet, the toilet took several flushes for everything to go down (some sort of low flow problems).

The information about the park and trail locations is yet another unexpected surprise. You have to cross over Hwy 1, duck under a fence and attmept to keep the trail. The trail access was better from the park than it was from the inn. The pictures of the vacant fields (giving the illusion that that is where you will be "hiding" if you will), are actually of vacant fields BEHIND the inn and are fenced off prohibiting access.

The breakfast was truly the most delightful surprise. The breakfast menus were amazingly wonderful--brought in a basket to our room, it offered true romance. It was an excellent highlight of our stay!

I have been harsh on Glendeven in this review. In actuality, it was a nice place to stay, just not very well represented by its claims on the website. Don't highlight something like a double headed shower when one of the showerheads is clogged and old! Don't present the inn giving the impression that it is off in the national park when it is directly on Hwy 1!

We liked our stay, it succeeded at being a romantic getaway for my husband and I...I am just not sure we would stay there again.
