Christmas at Lighthouse Inn A review of Lighthouse Inn at Aransas Bay

My husband and I recently returned to Canada after spending nine days in Texas over the Christmas holidays. For three nights, we stayed at the Lighthouse Inn at Aransas Bay.

I had chosen this location due to the good reviews on this site but I was a little disappointed. When we checked in on December 24th, we were asked if we had made reservations for the lunch buffet on the following day. We had not known about this so we were told that the event was sold out and we would have to find lunch elsewhere! I was extremely disappointed that we had not been contacted in advance about this - the inn did have all of our contact information from the reservation.

I guess they did not think it important enough to advise their guests in advance of the limited resources during the holidays. I thought where we were staying at an inn, we would not have to worry about meals during the holidays...that at least the guests in the facility would be provided for...I will never make that assumption again.

We were also provided the name of two nearby restaurants that would provide dinner on the 25th - the inn's restaurant, The Palm Room, would be open for guests only but with a very limited menu. When we tried to get better directions, the clerk was unable to give clear directions although she advised she had lived in the area all of her life.

We stayed in a Captain's Suite which was very nice and since we had a full kitchenette we when out and bought some food and cooked many of our own meals during our stay. The suite was very nice - very much like a small apartment with the small kitchenette, table and living room area with the bedroom and bathroom off this main area.

My other complaint was the lack of cleaning by the housecleaning staff. The first day (25th) we did keep the no disturb sign on the door all day but nothing was cleaned after that - not our sheets and certainly not the bathroom. The room was not even vacuumed during our stay. For paying $139.00 US a night, I expected better service in this area. It appeared that the housekeeping staff only came in our room to empty the garbage cans, make the bed and then replace the used towels. Once again, we had not been informed that we would receive such limited service so I had expected more.

We did eat in the inn's restaurant for our last night of the stay. I was not completely impressed with the service and the food was okay but not spectacular.

The views from the inn were fantastic - my husband enjoyed sitting on our private deck.

Would I stay here again - unsure.
