Can you say misleading photographs??? A review of Atlantic Oceanside Hotel and Conference Center
My family of four stayed for one night in August 2004. The website and all printed advertisements of this hotel show an aerial photo of the hotel grounds SURROUNDED by trees, as if located in a peaceful and unspoiled spot. Completely untrue!!! The entire left-hand side of the property (as you stand facing the ocean) borders the parking lot / auto loading area of the CAT ferry, with just an ugly chain-link fence separating them. Our room was one door down from this eyesore, facing the chain-link fence / parking lot and an ugly pool storage shed. We didn't pay extra for the ocean view, but were expecting something a bit more pleasant based on the hotel's literature. The room itself was musty, old, peeling, and generally unpleasant. Stepping outside was more so. We were extremely disappointed, esp. as the only reason we stayed in Bar Harbor overnight after our ferry trip was to relax for a night in pleasant surroundings before the long drive home. Breakfast was fine if you like store-bought white bread and stale rolls. We were so angry about the clearly doctored photographs in this hotel's advertisements that we complained to the hotel ($50 off of a $150 room rate) and the Better Business Bureau.
