Buyer Beware! A review of Lucia Lodge
Yes, the lodge offers extraordinary views (although they can be seen EVERYWHERE in this area). However, the food and staff leave a lot to be desired -- the atmosphere was permeated with an anti-tourist, anti-yuppie resentment. Whenever we asked questions about the area, the staff was curt and non-informative. They seemed to be laughing at us for paying so much $$$$ to stay in their crowded little 2 star motel. On line the images depict a lovely "cottage" in truth you have the pleasure of hearing cars park 5 ft. in front of your room and the joy of hearing neighbors through the thin motel walls.
The food was the worst, and ironically, most expensive that we had the entire trip. We stayed for 3 nights and although the view was memorable the Lucia Lodge failed to meet any of the standards of basic hospitality. Every other place we stayed, ate at, or shopped in offered exceptional service and classic California charm -- this place was a real stand out for all the wrong reasons.
