Brussels - holiday venue? A review of Hotel Leopold Brussels
A lunchtime arrival at the hotel meant we could not check in - however, we were able to leave our cases and explore Brussels unencumbered.
Upon check-in, the room was reasonably spacious with a comfortable bed and good air-conditioning. Although the carpet was stained the overall cleanliness was very good. The en-suite bath/shower, toilet and basin were spotless and all facilities worked well apart from a slow running bath waste which caused some problems when using the shower. The TV had many channels including BBC1 & 2.
The bar/brasserie was pleasant and the food was very good at a reasonable price. Service was efficient and unfussy. Breakfast was also very good, including the hot food which was served on hot plates, and a large variety of breads and pastries were available right to the end of the breakfast period. A wide range of other breakfast options were also available which included fruit and cold meats.
We found the surrounding area quiet but the hotel is in a commercial part of the city that is reasonably clean and is about a 15-20 minute walk to the Grand Place. There is not much in the vicinity of the hotel worth visiting which can generally, in our opinion, be said for Brussels as a whole. Far better to check out Bruges instead!
