Bring your walkin' Shoes! A review of Holiday Inn Phoenix Downtown North
My primary reasons for booking rooms at this hotel were (1) Location Location Location (in relation to St. Joseph Hospital) and (2) the discount offered for St. Joseph Hospital patrons. Those two reasons, my friends, would be the only two reasons you would choose to stay at this hotel! Parking: This was our first red flag! There are about 20 parking spaces in a narrow circle drive in the front of the hotel. I parked (illegally) in the handicapped space, left my 86 and 84 year old passengers in the car, and ran inside to see if I missed the entrance to the underground parking. While there was no additional parking on the Holiday Inn property, there was additional parking in a parking garage adjacent to the hotel next door which could be used by Holiday Inn guests. I unloaded the luggage and passengers and made the trek around the block, parked on the second level - not an elevator in sight - and walked the block and a half back to the Holiday Inn. To say the parking was inconvenient doesn't even begin to describe my thoughts as I walked alone in an unfamiliar area to return to check into my room. Front Desk Staff: The front desk staff, I believe her name was Betty, was excellent! She tried to solve my parking issue when I explained that I had two elderly mobility and hearing impaired passengers in tow but honestly I didn't want to take the chance of getting ticketed for using a handicapped parking space without a legitimate hang tag or license plate. The Room: Loved the view from our 10th floor room! Had a little difficulty regulating the temperature of the room but finally able to lower the temp from 78 to 71 after several hours of running the fan on high. Dinner: After convincing my travel companions that paying $11 for a sandwich in Phoenix was really quite reasonable, we sat down in the hotel dining room to order dinner. Unfortunately, the waiter was delivering room service so we had to wait for his return.
