Bring Ear Plugs! A review of Electra Palace Hotel Athens
There is so much to like about the Electra Palace Hotel: clean, pretty rooms, great Plaka location, and helpful staff. Unfortunately, there is also one GIANT thing that will keep me from recommending or returning to this hotel: the noise! Rooms, despite claiming to have soundproof windows, do not, and at night it is evident when you hear all of the street noise (cars, music, people, etc). Then there is the noise from your fellow travelers, who seem completely oblivious that it is rude to run down a hall yelling at midnight, or that no one wants to hear you and your female companion have a shouting match at 2am. The ultimate indicator of thin walls came when my bottled water fell over on my night table because someone ext door slammed a door at 1am! The floors are hardwood and you also get noise from your upstairs neighbors walking...I think our upstairs neighbor got in his/her daily 10,000 steps in their room! I also know the sound issue must pertain to the entire hotel because after the 2am shouting match, we asked to change rooms and are now in the other building of the hotel and experiencing similar issues. If the hotel invests in some MAJOR soundproofing it would be a great place, but until then, I'd stay away.
