Brides and Grooms Beware! A review of Embassy Suites Hotel Portland-Airport

We had our Wedding reception on September 3rd at the Embassy Suites and stayed there along with 25 other family members before we left on our Honeymoon on September 4th. The accomodations are fine but beware of the staff who works during and after the receptions in the main ballroom. We had a rather large reception and came away from our reception without our irreplaceable engraved cake serving set that somehow got misplaced...along with the custom box it was in. We also had to question staff regarding a digital camera which somehow ended up in the kitchen area. After the buffet tables were closed (while we were dancing) the remaining food was supposed to be brought to the Presidential suite which we had reserved for two nights and instead the staff took the food to eat while guests heard comments of "we're going to eat good tonight" and "check out what will be in the kitchen" as they cleared the buffet tables. The chocolates we had bought and placed on each table for our guests were being picked up by the staff and "pocketed" as one of our guests told us until she told a staff member to stop it. We brought all these problems to the attention of the management and their solution was to try and pay us for the cake set and give us a free night and dinner at the hotel...like that was supposed to make up for the embarrassment and frustration their staff caused. We basically paid a manditory 21% gratuity for staff to eat the food we purchased for our guests. We asked for a refund on the gratuity because the staff didn't deserve it but were scoffed at. I would suggest to anyone looking for a venue for a group event or reception to look elsewhere or if you choose to have the event there make sure you don't make use of anything of value or it will disappear without any concerns by the Management at this hotel.
