Blissful nature experience A review of Tiamo
When I booked a trip to Tiamo Resort solely on the basis of their wonderful website, I was concerned that the reality might not live up to the website. What I found at Tiamo, though, was even better! Tiamo is a remote, quiet, relaxing place to spend a few days or a week. With individual bungalows nestled amongst the palms trees and vegetation along a private beach, you can't get much more serene than this. Throw in 3 tasty meals a day, including a gourmet dinner, and your taste buds will be happy too. The owners and staff were all very friendly and welcoming. As I was preparing to leave, the groundskeeper insisted on stopping what he was doing to find and cut up a coconut from the beach for me, since I mentioned I was disappointed I had forgotten to do that. Tiamo is an eco-resort, but they don't seem to throw that term around lightly. Composting toilets look just like the real thing, but use a pint of water and drain to tank for composting (and they're not stinky!). All power for the resort is solar (they do have a generator for backup, but rarely use it). They have motorboats for getting to the resort, fishing, travelling to the reefs and blue holes to snorkel, etc. Other than that, no power toys = blissful quiet! Sailboats, kayaks, snorkeling equipment and trips, and hikes are included in your stay and were incredible adventures. The reefs and blue holes had plenty of beautiful fish and other creatures easily visible while snorkeling. Even the snorkeling right in front of the beach was interesting - fish, rays, eels, starfish, etc right from the dock. There were bonefish on the flats a short walk or kayak from our Tiamo bungalow, which and boat for a day of flyfishing for bonefish (cost extra). Those looking for loud or flashy won't like Tiamo (which is fine with me!). There are no jetskis, no casinos, no shopping...so come prepared to relax and enjoy the natural surroundings. Those looking for tranquility and beautiful marine surroundings will be well rewarded.
