Better than expected A review of Hotel Moscow (Moskva)
I stayed in this hotel on a business trip in January. When I first read the other crits from TripAdvisor I was a little alarmed to say the least. However, the hotel was already booked so I decided to make the best of it. When I got there I am pleased to say that is was considerably better than I anticipated. Yes, it is a tourist class hotel, but at 65 euros per night B&B what do you expect. The hotel lobby was bright and tidy, the rooms on the small side but otherwise very clean and with good basic ameneties. My room was at the back so I didn't get any street noise. The staff were fine - I think the comments on "unhelpful" possibly come from the fact that they speak very little English - I was with a Russian speaker and it was fine. I didn't eat in the restaurant, but the breakfast is OK and I would think most people could find something to eat. The hot food was a bit greasy (with a lot of cabbagy things) but there was fresh bread, cereals, yoghurt, fruit and cold meat and cheese which was perfectly acceptable. For dinner try the Rasputin restaurant about 200m from the hotel - very good and not expensive.
I didn't see any drunks outside the hotel and whilst a few "ladies of the night" position themselves in the lobby (discreetly) ater 10pm, this is quite standard in a lot of Russian hotels.
If you are uncomfortable with this type of hotel, then opt for the more Westernised ones, but you will be paying 3-4x the price.
