Best/only boutique-y hotel in lancaster area A review of Lancaster Arts Hotel

We stayed at the Lancaster Arts while visiting my family in the area--I actually grew up in Lancaster City, and frankly Lancaster never used to have a hotel of this caliber. If you're used to and enjoy the amenities associated with a luxury hotel, this is really the only game in town. The building's renovation was really well executed and the room's furnishings and the common areas are really quite nice. The hotel is also really a great value for what it is, as a hotel this nice in a larger city would easily be over $200. We were also pretty impressed by the restauarant and bar, newly opened--the food was really good and uses local produce (which is excellent). On another note, this area of town may frighten some more squeamish suburbanite visitors but the immediate area is perfectly safe--it's actually mostly pretty cool old brick tobacco warehouses around the hotel...Lancaster, even downtown has very low crime and what crime there is is usually local and drug related.

On the whole, an excellent hotel. If you prefer chain hotels and want to be in close proximity to the Amish-related tourist traps, you may prefer to stay on a strip mall on Route 30. Otherwise the Lancaster Arts is highly recommended.
