Best Kept Secret A review of Shem Creek Inn
A Trip Advisor review sparked my interest when looking for a place to stay in the Charleston area--but I was still skeptical until we arrived. It was the perfect getaway, my husband told them when we left if he was ever within a 100 miles he would make it a point to stay at their Inn. Its location to historical Charleston, Sullivan's Island, Patriots Point all within a 10 minute or less drive just added to its charm.
You must ask to stay on the creek side when you book, it was just great sitting on the balcony watching the shrimp boats come and go along with the local boat traffic. The pelicans and sea gulls were quite entertaining also along with several dolphins we spotted.
Great restaurants & bars on both sides of the Inn plus across the creek if you care to walk across the bridge. Did venture to Poe's Tavern on Sullivans Island one day (a tip from the staff), the best burgers ever -- a must do if you are in the area. We ate at the Waters Edge one evening just steps from the Inn, the blue lump crap cakes were mouthwatering along with everything else we ordered.
The staff was quite helpful with anything asked of them. I did read a review that complained of the towels being a bit thin/scratchy -- while they were not thick and soft, they did serve their purpose nicely. The location more than made up for it.
