Best hotel view in prague but...... A review of Hotel Lippert
This is the 1st time I've felt the need to write a review about a hotel but given our experiences I felt I should on this occasion. This was the 2nd time we visited Prague (4 nights) and on the 1st occasion we stayed in a big globally known hotel. On this occasion the family wanted a little more authenticity.
Prague itself is a wondeful place - lots to see and do, especially over the Christmas period - lovely atmsphere and I'd recommend going to one of the church/cathedral recitals, even is you don't really like such things. The acoustics, atmosphere and quality/ professionalism are fantastic. All the family agreed. Prague Food is generally good and varied as are the prices! Prague itself is a gem!!
We booked 3 double rooms at the Metamorphis Hotel just off the old square. When we arrived we were told that there was no water and they couldn't say for how long, hours or days. Therefore at short notice they had found us 3 vacant double rooms in the sister hotel Cerna Liska. As both hotels are very small and we were told that the Prague hotels were very busy, we found this availability suprising. The cynic in me did wonder if the management took enough bookings to fill both hotels and then just allocated on arrival with appropriate excuses for the change of hotel. I note that a previous travellor had similar problems. However I woud advise future travellors to be aware of this possiblity.
The Cerna Liska does have to be one of, if not the best placed hotels in Prague if you want to soak up the surroundings. We all had fantastic views of the old square and would confirm some of the good points raised by other reviews. The rooms were small but clean and bed reasonably comfortable. In bathroom shampoo/body wash and liquid soap containers attached to wall no other toiletaries supplied. It was hit and miss whether you were given correct amount of towels etc but staff very pleasant and helpful. Contrary to other remarks we didn't find it noisy if you kept your double windows closed. Our room 104 did have a very noticable sewer smell throughout our stay but the others were fine so we stayed put. Breakfast was basic continental fare. Overall you are paying for the view and central location. Its not a 4 star hotel as it claims (3 at best) nor worth the charge of just under £100 per night. We wouldn't go back to this hotel - plenty more would offer better value for money.
