Best B&B in Belgium! A review of Absoluut Verhulst
We've just returned from a wonderfully refreshing stay in Bruges after discovering possibly the best B&B in Belgium! The Absoluut Verhulst Bed and Breakfast is in a quiet area (Verbrand Neiuwland), a pleasant 5-minute walk from the central market. The rooms are big, clean, warm and well-equipped with a TV, tea-making facilities and a fridge/mini-bar. The en-suite bathrooms are also spacious and pristine with a modern shower and plenty of mirrors and storage space. Our particular bathroom was on a different level and reached by a mini-staircase, which was a little challenging after indulging in Belgian beer!
All of the rooms are tastefully decorated and with comfy beds, thick quilts and quality linens. The B&B is set in a 400-year-old house which is full of character with old beams and squeaky stairs alongside quirky fittings such as futuristic lighting and coloured glass.
The highlight of a stay at Absoluut Verhulst is the hosts: Frieda and Benno. Not only are they one of the nicest couples you will ever meet, they are also very helpful, thoughtful and knowledgeable about the area. They have a library of travel books (including Belgium & Holland) and have even put together their own home-made and up-to-date map of the area including some of Bruges' best attractions and eateries. Benno and Freida love to pamper and each of our breakfasts was a never-ending feast of fresh and home-made delights.
I could not have dreamt up a nicer place to stay. We were lucky to find out about it and now so are you. www.b-bverhulst.com
