Bed... and Breakfast? A review of Manitou Lodge Bed and Breakfast
Well, we just returned from a trip to the Olympic Peninsula where we stayed at the Manitou Lodge, located a few miles from Forks, WA. Personally, we don't usually stay at B&B's because they tend to be a little over priced and can be a crap shoot, but their website was great and it looked like a cool place. Unfortunately, our stay at Manitou was less than stellar. The room was nice enough (we stayed in the Lady of Guadalupe - upstairs in the main lodge); it was well decorated, very clean and the bed was great. But, there were definitely some issues. The breakfast they served was pathetic (when you advertise as a Bed & Breakfast, the breakfast should be a positive feature). They serve a "breakfast basket" which is put in your frig the night before. It was basically a continental breakfast, VERY heavy on the carbs. The juice was actually "orange drink." Also, I emailed ahead of time to let them know one of us was vegetarian, and I was emailed back saying it would be taken care of. Well, it wasn't. When I went to tell someone about it, no one could be found. Another problem, the couple next to us were LOUD (not really the fault of the lodge). The man read aloud most of the evening (it sounded like NPR turned way up) and he snored, even louder than he spoke. Luckily they were only there for our first night. The second night we had a nice quiet couple next to us. My last pet peeve was the show tunes being played constantly in the main lodge great room. We tried to turn them off once when we were eating breakfast, but within a few minutes they were back on (I was unconsciously humming Jesus Christ Superstar all day). Let's just say we aren't coming back!
