Beautiful location, but hotel could be better.... A review of Mountain Lodge At Telluride
We recently stayed 7 nights at the Mountain Lodge, for a conference which was held at the nearby conference center. We stayed in a regular room, not a kitchen unit or suite. The room was small, but not too cramped. We found the price to be very reasonable, and the hotel staff were gracious.
The Mountain Lodge is in a truly beautiful location, with stunning views of the mountains around Telluride. The main lodge is nicely furnished, with a bar, and cozy pool area. We liked the bath robes which were hanging in our closet for our use during our stay.
However, there were some things that bothered me, so I decided to write this review.
We stayed in the Prospect Creek unit, which is conveniently located to the main lodge. I believe that many (if not all) of the units at Mountain Lodge are actually condos. Therefore, some of the usual hotel amenities are not available.
For instance, there are no ice machines. You must go to the front desk and ask for ice. Also, there was no breakfast available, although they did offer coffee in the main lodge.
If you want to park near the lodge, it costs $20 per day. We decided to park in the free garage, which is a 5-10 minute walk. Since there was a lot of construction near the free parking garage, the walk was over dirt and gravel, with an incline. Comfortable hiking shoes are a must. I must say that the hotel staff was very friendly, and they were always available to give a free shuttle ride to the gondola, which helps if you don't want to wear walking shoes all the time!
Local calls were $1 each, which irritated me, since we made dinner reservations a couple of nights.
Also, you are encouraged to ride the free gondola into the town of Telluride. However, you will be charged $7 per night, for the gondola, since "all" hotels charge this fee. So, the gondola really isn't "free" after all!
Another complaint about the hotel, was that the walls seemed very "thin", i.e. sound traveled through them too easily! We could hear the radio and TV next door. It got so bad, that we even had to change rooms during our stay, and our second room wasn't as nice as the first (location wise), but it was more quiet (even though we could still hear the new neighbors).
All in all, the Mountain Lodge is a nice place to stay, but could be improved in a few areas.
