Bay Club Was Okay A review of Newport Bay Club & Hotel
My wife and I stayed at the Bay Club in Dec 2001 for our Annual Christmas in Newport Pilgrimage. We found the hotel to be very charming and quite like a Dicken's Village piece, which was a bonus given the season. All in all, the hotel was fine for a Christams trip, but as many readers said, it wasn't luxurious by any stretch. The "continental breakfast" that we were offered was really stale muffins and coffee.
There was no gym, as promised, and the rooms were slightly dirty and they did smell like cigarettes. This last point was unacceptable, as far as I'm conerned, because all hotels should be smoke free, especially in a state like RI, where people should know better.
Unfortunately, this last point seems to ring true for all hotels in Newport. As we discovered this past year Christmas, the Newport Marriott also has a smoking problem. For 2003, it's the Harbor Hotel.
Hopefully they realize that smokers destroy hotels, and shouldn't be allowed to smoke in them.
