Bad reviews must be bogus - we loved it! A review of Mayfair Hotel & Spa
My husband and I stayed here two nights in November 2003. I had gotten an internet special, which was a great price. On checkin (at a seated private desk - not a noisy lobby), we were offered an upgrade to a suite for a reasonable price. The room was like nothing I've ever seen - orange and purple drapery all around the room, furniture out of Alice in Wonderland, and a restored (and playable!) antigue English piano - in the room! The bed was one of the most comfortable I've ever slept on, and I've stayed at some pretty outstanding places. The bath was huge with a big soaking tub. But the best was the Wisteria-covered balcony with the Japanese soaking tub. Our's worked fine (we followed the directions which others obviously didn't). We had a minor problem in the bath and maintenance came right away and fixed it. The atrium was stunning, with healthy and well-maintained plantings, water features, and statuary. One of the most outstanding features were the unique carvings on each room door. Right in the middle of the Grove, and an easy stroll to great dining, we didn't eat in the hotel, so I can't rate the food or service there, but the service from the front desk, the bellmen, and housekeeping was fine. We will definitely go back when in the Miami area if we can get that good a deal again.
