Away from city center, but worth the drive! A review of Embassy Suites Hotel Portland-Airport
Just returned home after spending 3 nights at this hotel. The better downtown Portland hotels were booked (probably because of this weekend's Race for the Cure) and we decided to stay a bit out of town based on the very positive reviews we found on this website regarding this hotel. We couldn't have been more pleased with this Embassy Suites. We booked a one bedroom suite with two double beds at a great AAA on-line rate; the room was spacious and very clean. Despite the closeness to the Portland Airport (1/2 mile), we were subjected to very few jet engine sounds during the length of our stay. In addition, even though the hotel appeared to be full on the first night of our stay, we never heard a sound from surrounding rooms on any of the three nights we were there. No toilets flushing, no unwanted conversations overheard, and no doors slamming. The complimentary breakfast was satisfying and met our needs, but wasn't incredible--and we didn't expect it to be so considering that we headed down for our breakfasts towards the end of the serving time. We especially appreciated the spaciousness of our room, the attentive and helpful staff, free parking, access to several premium movie channels, and a generous nightly reception at the hotel's bar. Without a doubt, our only negative experience was trying to navigate through the streets and highways of Portland. We became lost on every single venture we made to this hotel, and through the city of Portland. Living in a city which is known for it's lack of adequate directions (Seattle), we were amazed that Portland was even worse! If you come better prepared than we did as far as navigating the streets of Portland, you shouldn't have a thing to complain about if you choose this hotel!
