Avoid if possible A review of Ibis Manchester Centre Portland Street

Ok, it's only £56 per night, but please, if you can afford more, stay elsewhere.

I've stayed in Ibis hotels all over the place, but this one is much more like it's Accor sister 'Formula 1' brand. EVERYTHING is plastic, so it can be wiped down with a rag.

The rooms are the usual Ibis method: a rectangle with a plastic bathroom unit bolted on by the door. The bathroom is fine, but it was a bit grubby. Shower was powerful. The bed is very, very hard. Though double glazed, the room was extremly noisy, as it faced Portland Street itself.

This hotel has no soul. The staff are fine, but you can tell they're longing to be over in the Novotel nextdoor. (another Accor brand) Stay there if you can; definatly worth the extra £30 a night.

Mind you, it is in a good location...right on the corner of Portland Street and Oxford Road, and only 2 minutes walk to Piccadilly Gardens bus/tram centre, and only 5 minutes walk to Piccadilly itself.
