Attention to detail! A review of Melrose Mansion
Was the Melrose Mansion nice? Yes. Would I stay there again NO! After making our reservations and before arriving at Melrose my wife found this site and noticed all the negative comments. She called Melrose and asked does our room have a bathtub? YES. Are we in the annex? NO. Are we in the main mansion? YES.Upon our arrival the room was not ready, no big deal we got into town early. The wife and I went and got some lunch, came back and our room was ready. We were then taken to a building that was not connected to the main mansion (Napoleon 4). The room was nice, but no bathtub! The showerhead is mounted in the ceiling and water gets all over the floor through the glass door. A lamp was burned out in the shower. One of the light switches gets hot to the touch (fire hazard!) Items in the room were very dusty. The staff was very nice. But for me, attention to detail makes the difference between good and great.Toilet paper? The first morning I noticed there was very little toilet paper left. At about 3pm we returned to the mansion from a nice day of walking and our room had been cleaned? The toilet paper roll had about 4 squares left, as my wife was looking around the bathroom for another roll she noticed an old hand towel behind the toilet covered in dust, we used the remaining 4 squares to throw that away! My wife called the front desk to tell them we need toilet paper, they were nice as always. We left about an hour later, still no toilet paper! We walked to Walgreens and back (about 40min). When we returned there was toilet paper on the roll and an extra on the sink. Later that night we walked into the lobby, there was other guests in there. The young lady told my wife she took care of our toilet paper problem. We can get this service at Best Western. The rooms are not cheap, but if their service (attention to detail) was good I would be back there every time. I think it could be with some work! We had a great time on our vacation and will be back to New Orleans, just not Melrose. If you want excellent service and an excellent meal go to NOLAs and ask for Jill Lindblom, see I remembered her name (excellent service)!
